Green Gecko is located in the Northeast of Thailand, or "Isaan", about 30 minutes from Udon Thani airport, which is served by frequent daily services from Bangkok (on Thai Airways, Nok Air and Air Asia)  as well as from Phuket  in Southern Thailand (Air Asia), Chiang Mai in northern Thailand (Nok Air) and Luang Prabang in Laos (Laos Aviation).

About Us

My name is Ten and I, together with my wife, four children, relatives and friends wanted to encourage more visitors to Isaan, to experience Thai village life. We live in rural villages nearby, beyond the Thai forest  temple.

The villa was designed, constructed and fitted out by us - hopefully in a way that not only reflects local traditions and craftsmanship but also ensures our guests an enticing and comfortable base in which to relax, or out of which to explore our surroundings.

As a former chef I enjoy all aspects of Thai and Isaan cooking, and look forward to introducing you to local specialties in addition to the more well known elements of Thai cuisine. When not at Green Gecko, we can be found in our rice paddies,  continuing our efforts to reforest the immediate area,  fishing from our boat on the local lake, or at home looking after our children and our enormous Great Dane!

The success of our first property encouraged us to design and launch this second villa. We hope Green Gecko will not only provide our guests with an enjoyable and memorable holiday experience, but also permit a greater number of our family and friends to make a living locally, near our home - thus permitting them to stay in the village rather than being forced to migrate to Bangkok or overseas to seek employment. 

We are very aware that the success of this endeavour relies fully upon ensuring that your stay is relaxing, interesting and fun! We are always keen to welcome back guests who have stayed with us before, and like to consider subsequent visits to rent the house again as a sign of success.

Why rent a Thai villa?

Thailand may be a popular travel destination, but  the vast majority of visitors to the Kingdom rarely venture away from the tourist meccas of Chiang Mai, Phuket, Koh Samui Hua Hin and Pattaya, and generally just book a hotel or resort in which to while away their time.

We believe that there is a growing trend and desire amongst visitors to get off the beaten path and to track down a unique, one-of-a-kind experience. A hotel room that  stacks us up with other displaced souls, or a  resort that prefers us  to remain within its walls, is less attractive than ever.

Simultaneously, we believe that guests today have much higher expectations and seek a greater  awareness of the lifestyles and traditions of the locales that they visit. They are keen to keep travel sustainable:  with a constant eye upon the environment and a mind to help the indigenous people wherever possible, yet without sacrificing comfort, facilities and style.

Green Gecko continues our principles of maintaining all revenues within the community, and developing sustainable tourism in Thailand's Northeast (or "Isaan") - traditionally one of the poorest regions of the country. Please join us!
