Green Gecko was designed to reflect the architecture of traditional Thai houses, whilst also placing a premium on privacy and comfort (steeply pitched, hand-made terracotta tile roofs clearly epitomize Thai style and help cooling, for example, but air-conditioners are also incorporated throughout.)
Green Gecko is set in over 30,000sqm of private grounds. Its impressive wooden entrance staircase leads up through typical wooden doors to the inner sanctum of the property.
The house offers two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a living room, dining room, fully-equipped European and professional Siamese kitchens, a typical "sala", a large wooden deck and private swimming pool. Set among woodlands, with serene views over to rice paddies and tropical plantations, Green Gecko beckons with its enticing pool and invites you to indulge, explore and relax!
The tree that rises from under the deck at Green Gecko is a Champee Tree (Magnolia champaca). It has elongated, bright but delicate orange flowers, with a heady, sweet fragrance. The scent can often be enjoyed several hundred feet away...
The main living area is raised on stilts over two metres from ground level, permitting excellent views of the surrounding countryside, as well as ensuring both cooling breezes and maximum privacy. Set around a large, central raised wooden deck and the private swimming pool are two main buildings and a "sala" (a sheltered but open-air relaxation area.)
The spacious, air-conditioned living room is finished in local artefacts, indigenous antiques, wood and cottons, and offers comfortable sofa seating with views out over your swimming pool and the surrounding countryside. Its ancient doors open out directly onto the main wooden pool deck.
A large sunken snug offers a separate area with a widescreen LCD TV, full international satellite programming, a top-end stereo system, DVD player & film library.
Should you wish to access the internet, we will be happy to lend you our notebook computer which provides wireless internet connectivity.
The dining room may be closed off from the kitchen or alternatively opened out into it. The teak and bamboo dining table comfortably seats six.
The western kitchen is fully equipped (with refrigerator, freezer, microwave, toaster, blender, oven, crockery and cutlery, coffee plunger etc), and a well-ventilated Thai kitchen is also available, featuring essential power-wok burners. You are free to use these kitchens or simply to ignore them, as your personal chef will conjure up delicious Thai meals for you throughout your stay.
The air-conditioned master bedroom, finished in woods and cottons with a Thai twist, enjoys sweeping views over the surrounding countryside and the swimming pool. It features an elegant king-sized four poster bed, crafted in teak. There is ample wardrobe storage, and sliding wooden panels may be opened or closed to reveal the spacious adjoining bathroom. This features double sinks, hand-crafted in celadon, and a WC. In addition, the master bedroom boasts a bewitching exterior garden with a large rain shower, surrounded by lush greenery.
The second bedroom is also air-conditioned, with views over both the deck area and adjoining woodland. It too is finished in wood and cotton, has a queen sized four-poster bed and generous storage space. The large en-suite bathroom features a hand-made sink, a walk-in shower, and WC.
The house is centred around a vast wooden deck that affords privacy for sunbathing during the days, or a dramatic setting for an alfresco dinner under radiant stars.
Here, the raised "sala" offers shade from the sun during the day, and a place to relax in the balmy evenings. Lie back with a book on an oversized teak steamer chair, or simply laze on a traditional Isaan cushion.
Your private salt-water infinity swimming pool is finished in hand-made tiles, in subtly shimmering iridescent shades of green. Swim out beyond the boundaries of the house and enjoy panoramic views of the countryside.
Sun loungers on the deck afford a chance to soak up the tropical sun.
As self-catering holidays often tie you to the kitchen, at Green Gecko we prepare and serve all your meals for you (we feel good meals make a good holiday, and guests should not be overcharged for a little indulgence!)
Thai - and Northeastern food in particular - can be searingly spicy: we will be happy to prepare your meals as mild or as chili-hot as you choose. Should you have any specific preferences (vegetarian, allergies, etc) or requests, do simply inform us.
We will be delighted to show you how to make Thai and Isaan dishes should you wish to hone your skills and enable yourself to recreate these zingy, fresh and tasty meals at home! Find out more about Thai food here.
